چکیده

In order to capture the essence of PCS network behavior, a good mobility model is necessary. This model must be good enough to fit field data and make the resulting queueing model still tractable. In this paper, we propose a new mobility model, called hyper-Erlang distribution model, which satisfies the above two requirements. We use this model to characterize the cell residence time and obtain analytical results for the channel holding time, the distribution of which is of primary importance in teletraffic analysis of PCS networks. These results can be used to facilitate the computation together with the use of the partial fractional expansion technique. It is expected that the mobility model and the analytical results for channel holding time presented in this paper will play an significant role for field data processing in PCS network design and performance evaluation. Keywords-PCS, Mobility, Call holding time, Cell residence time, Channel holding time.

Teletraffic analysis and mobility modeling of PCS networks

Channel holding time is of primary importance in teletraffic analysis of PCS networks. This quantity depends on user’s mobility which can be characterized by the cell residence time. In this paper we show that when the cell residence time is not exponentially distributed, the channel holding time is not exponentially distributed either, a fact also confirmed by available field data. In order to...

A Homogeneous PCS network with Markov Call Arrival Process and Phase Type Cell Residence Time

In this paper, the arrival of calls (i.e., new and handoff calls) in a personal communications services (PCS) network is modeled by a Markov arrival process (MAP) in which we allow correlation of the interarrival times among new calls, among handoff calls, as well as between these two kinds of calls. The PCS network consists of homogeneous cells and each cell consists of a finite number of chan...

Access and Mobility Policy Control at the Network Edge

The fifth generation (5G) system architecture is defined as service-based and the core network functions are described as sets of services accessible through application programming interfaces (API). One of the components of 5G is Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) which provides the open access to radio network functions through API. Using the mobile edge API third party analytics applications ...

Channel holding time characterization in real GSM network

This paper presents a realistic characterization of the channel holding time in an operating GSM network covering an urban area. Our approach is entirely statistical: the data set to be fitted has been provided by the OMC (Operations and Maintenance Center). The Kolmogorov Smirnov goodness of fit test is used in order to test the suitability of the exhibited distribution. From this statistical ...

A model for teletraffic performance and channel holding time characterization in wireless cellular communication with general session and dwell time distributions

Channel holding times and user mobility are important topics in the study of wireless cellular communications. We present an approach to modeling user mobility and session time which enables both the calculation of teletraffic performance characteristics and a characterization of holding time which agrees with published reports. The model allows both the dwell time and unencumbered session time...
